Terwillegar Park Footbridge Open House – City of Edmonton – May 31st

The River Valley Alliance participated in the City of Edmonton open house for the Terwillegar Park Footbridge and West End Trails. Participants at this drop-in event had an opportunity to see and provide comments on the final designs of the footbridge and discuss the West End Trails. River Day 2014 – June 14th

River Day this year saw record numbers.  Participants over numerous locations (Devon-Voyageur Park, Parkland County-Prospectors Point, Edmonton-Rundle Park, and Fort Saskatchewan-West Rivers Edge), took advantage of free family fun all in celebration of River Day. Everyone had the chance to try fishing, paddle boarding, canoeing, gold panning, take a river boat ride, get their face painted and of course indulge in the pancake breakfast.

At West River’s Edge, Fort Saskatchewan and the River Valley Alliance hosted and celebrated the first Groundbreaking Event, to kickoff the first of 13 initiatives within the RVA Capital Project. This Fort Saskatchewan initiative adds 13km’s of new trail to its extensive trail system as part of the River Valley Alliance’s $90 Million Capital Project, which was announced in January 2013.

The Groundbreaking Event was attended by: MP Leon Benoit, MLA Jacquie Fenske, Mayor Gale Katchur and Councilors Arjun Randhawa, Birgit Blizzard, and Frank Garritsen, Fort Saskatchewan Administration, Sturgeon County Councilor, Ferd Caron, RVA Chair, Chris Sheard, RVA Executive Director, Barry Anderson, RVA Program Manager, Leslee Laing, RVA Advisory Members, Brent Collingwood, Roberta Malysh, Margaret Wade, Sheila Thompson, and Judy Duncan.

In addition to these key participants, there were 900+ participants at the “Kids Can Catch Fishing Event” hosted by the Alberta Conservation Association, taking place at the West Rivers Edge wetland adjacent to the groundbreaking site.

K-Days Parade – July 18th

Last year was so much fun that we wanted to participate again! It is a great way to show off our River Valley Alliance spirit and participate in an iconic Edmonton event. Here are a few pictures of this year’s float:
