River Valley Alliance announces new Executive Director

Brent Collingwood

RVA welcomes Brent Collingwood as Executive Director.

The River Valley Alliance (RVA) is pleased to welcome Brent Collingwood as Executive Director, effective Jan. 1, 2018.

“Brent has an active history with the RVA and we’re thrilled to announce this appointment where he will continue to lend his passion and expertise to our vision of a continuous, connected river valley park system,” says Guy Bridgeman, Interim Chair, RVA Board of Directors. “His extensive knowledge of the RVA positions him well to lead the organization through its next phase of capital programming.”

Collingwood’s involvement with the RVA began in 2011 as a City of Edmonton representative on the organization’s Advisory Committee. In 2013 he was elected Chair of the Advisory Committee and, in this role, sat on the Board of Directors. In April 2017 he was elected Chair of the Board.

“I look forward to working with our municipal shareholders, staff, volunteers and the Board in leaving a legacy of connectivity from Devon to Fort Saskatchewan for current and future generations,” says Collingwood.

Collingwood has a Masters of Education in Leadership and Change, in addition to a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and Recreation. He comes from a background of both education and hospitality management with 17 years in governance and leadership with the University of Alberta’s School of Business, as well as with multinational club and resort management company ClubCorp as an expatriate General Manager.

About the River Valley Alliance
The River Valley Alliance is a not-for-profit company owned by the seven shareholder municipalities that border the North Saskatchewan River in the Edmonton region: the Town of Devon, Parkland County, Leduc County, the City of Edmonton, Strathcona County, the City of Fort Saskatchewan, and Sturgeon County. The RVA’s goal is to preserve, protect and enhance the largest metropolitan river valley park system in the world – a legacy for generations to come – and connect it with trails and accessible features.
